Somerset Insurance Solutions is a California-licensed independent insurance agency. We combine decades of hands-on agency experience with a background in insurance technology to help families and businesses plan coverage that actually fits.
Two decades of insurance, one core focus.
Our managing broker, Mike Cheng, started as an insurance agent in 2004 and first became Somerset's managing broker in 2011. Between 2015 and 2019 he spent several years inside some of the Bay Area's best-known insurance technology companies, helping build the insurance offering at Gusto, leading sales at Gabi, and brokering for Newfront.
That experience shaped how Somerset works today: the personal attention of an independent agency, paired with modern tools that make shopping and comparing coverage easier. It's also why Mike co-founded DwellQuote, a home insurance quoting platform for California homeowners.
The idea behind all of it is simple. Insurance works best when your home, auto, life, and business coverage are planned together, by an agent who knows your situation and works for you rather than for a single insurance company.

Mike has worked in insurance since 2004, beginning as an agent before leading Somerset as managing broker. He was a member of the founding broker team at Gusto, where he helped grow its insurance platform, and later served as Head of Sales at Gabi and as a partner broker at Newfront. He is also co-founder of DwellQuote.

Lawrence Lue

Lawrence has been a Somerset agent since 2013, serving clients throughout Southern California from Irvine. Before Somerset he was an agent with Farmers Insurance, and he spent five years as a partner in an independent coffeehouse, so he understands firsthand what it takes to protect a small business.
